Samsung brought high-end speeds to the budget sphere for the very first time. Find out if it's enough in our Samsung Galaxy A13 5G review.

Now, though, Samsung is hoping that 5G speeds will raise the budget line’s profile enough to justify an increased price tag.. Samsung Galaxy A13 5G (4GB / 64GB): $249.99. The Galaxy A13 we tested arrived running Android 11 out of the box with Samsung’s One UI skin on top.. According to Samsung, the Galaxy A13 5G will receive four years of security patches and two years of software updates.. The same 5,000mAh battery and 6.5-inch HD+ display are back from the previous model, too.. I found that it delivered sharp results in good lighting, and the portrait mode’s edge detection was impressive, especially on static objects — you can see an example of this in the image above.. An image of a rainbow train with the Galaxy A13An image of a flower person with the Galaxy A13An image of chalkboards with the Galaxy A13. An image of dog statues with the Galaxy A13A macro image with the Galaxy A13An image of far-away ducks with the Galaxy A13. Is the Samsung Galaxy A13 a 5G phone? There are two models of the Galaxy A13, the Galaxy A13 5G and the Galaxy A13 LTE.

Budget ≠ bad

With comparatively strong performance, ample battery life, decent cameras, and long update support, the Samsung Galaxy A13 5G is easy to like at 250 bucks.. Pros Quicker than I'd expect a budget phone to be Long battery life Four years of security updates. Cons 90Hz refresh rate aside, display isn't very good Questionable build quality Two of its three rear cameras aren't useful. The primary camera kicks out decent images in good light.. Good macro cameras can be a lot of fun, but this is not one of them.. Shot on the Galaxy A13 5G's 2MP macro camera.. At two megapixels, photos from the A13’s macro camera are comparatively tiny: just 1,600 by 1,200 pixels.. They just aren’t good.. I’d much rather have a single, good camera.. I like this phone a lot more than I expected to.. Performance is great for the price, battery life is really strong, and compared to other phones in this price range, its cameras aren’t bad at all (well, the primary one, anyway).. Buy the Samsung Galaxy A13 5G:. Coming back to the A13, I’ve been floored at just how close the experience of using this $250 Samsung phone is to the experience of using one that costs nearly three times as much.

The Galaxy A series phone is Samsung's budget to the mid-priced line...

The Galaxy A series phone is Samsung's budget to the mid-priced line of smartphones.. But it is a budget 5G phone, so the hardware you are getting is good enough for the budget-friendly phones.. Samsung Galaxy A13 5G comes with a PLS TFT display which has a 90Hz refresh rate.. So, these features can give you a good user experience.. Samsung Galaxy A13 5G. The Galaxy A13's primary rear-facing camera has a 50-megapixel resolution, and its secondary cameras are two megapixels, one for the macro lens and one for the depth.. The A13 camera has its limitations in dim lighting.. So, you may need to buy the charger if you don't see it in the box.. The Samsung Galaxy A13 5G comes with only one internal memory option.. The Samsung A13 5G is priced at $250 or around Tk.. So, should you buy a Samsung Galaxy A13 5G ?. Further, the battery holds up well, and it's excellent compared to phones in this price range.

The Samsung Galaxy A13’s poor speeds, reduced battery life and lack of 5G tarnish an otherwise well-rounded budget handset

Budget smartphones are a dime a dozen these days, and while the market is flooded with cheap handsets from the likes of Motorola and Nokia, Samsung typically prefers to keep things nice and simple, usually offering only one or two sub-£200 phones at any one time.. Like the rest of the A-series, the A13 launches with Android 12 and Samsung’s One UI 4.1, although it lacks any official IP rating and doesn’t support 5G connections in the UK.. The Galaxy A13 released in the UK on 25 March for £179 and comes in a choice of three colours: Awesome Black, Awesome White and Awesome Blue.. It’s a great example of how to make a phone on a budget, with top-notch cameras, superior performance and a colour-accurate 90Hz OLED display.. Still, at least Samsung did a good job when placing the cameras on the back.. The 50MP main camera, 5MP ultrawide and depth-sensing unit are vertically placed in the top-left corner, with the phone’s macro camera and LED flash sitting just to the right.. The Galaxy A13 is one of the few Samsung phones without an OLED display.. With an sRGB colour gamut coverage of 99.1%, a total volume of 129.3% and an average Delta E (colour variance) of 2.09, the A13’s display isn’t too shabby, and I’ve seen worse on recent phones at this price – here’s looking at you, Nokia G21.. Like the S22 series , the UK and US models differ in terms of chipset componentry, with the slightly older 5G-enabled US model (SM-A136U) getting the MediaTek Dimensity 700, while UK buyers are left with the 4G-only Samsung Exynos 850 (SM-A135F).. The Galaxy A13 reached just over 19 hours in our video playback test, which is more than good enough to last a day and a bit on a single charge, but considering last year’s Galaxy A12 survived an extra seven hours under the same conditions, you’re getting a raw deal here, too.. The Samsung Galaxy A13 has four cameras on the back: a 50MP (f/1.8) main camera, supported by a 5MP (f/2.2) ultrawide and a pair of 2MP macro and depth-sensing units.. Clawing things back from complete negativity, the Galaxy A13’s cameras are pretty good.. It didn’t initially receive a recommendation in our review, but with 2022 updates to the cameras, design and software, the Galaxy A13 was perfectly positioned to finally make an appearance on our best budget smartphones list.

Android (and One UI) on a budget

Perhaps better than any other phone maker, Samsung is able to produce appealing handsets at just about every price point – and the Galaxy A13, the follow-up to 2021's Galaxy A12, comes in at just about the cheapest price point there is.. You can save yourself around $1,000 (or £1,000 or AU$1,500) by buying this phone instead of the lowest spec'd version of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra – that's a massive saving of course, but you're also making some pretty major compromises along the way.. In other words, it feels like a phone that's going to last, and we like the way that the rear camera module is embedded into the back of the phone, up in the top left corner – something Samsung is doing in all of its Galaxy handsets this year.. (Image credit: Future)The dimensions of the phone are dictated by the 6.6-inch screen – it comes in at 165.1 x 76.4 x 8.8mm, which is 6.5 inches x 3 inches x 0.35 inches.. While the standards of this display panel aren't up to those of the OLEDs that Samsung sticks to the front of some of its more expensive phones, it's still one of the best parts of the overall Galaxy A13 package.. (Image credit: Future)It's worth noting that the Samsung Galaxy A13 5G available in the US has a completely different - and lower resolution - screen, but we're specifically looking at the 4G model here.. As with a lot of cheaper phones, the Samsung Galaxy A13 has more lenses than you might expect, but the extra ones don't do an awful lot.. The 50MP main camera is the star of the show, and you can get some really great-looking snaps with the phone in good light and with plenty of time to keep the phone steady.. (Image credit: Future)We did see some blurring and warping in ultrawide mode, and the camera does start struggling in low light: the pictures you'll get in the dark aren't great, but they're usable in some cases.. There's no doubt that spending a bit more money is going to get you a phone camera that captures significantly better pictures, but at the same time the Samsung Galaxy A13 isn't going to let you down most of the time.. While we didn't find the sluggishness of the Galaxy A13 a huge problem while we were using it, it is noticeable, and we can't tell you what the phone is going to run like a year or two years after you've bought it: chances are that it's going to start slowing down more rapidly over time than a mid-ranger or flagship handset.. (Image credit: Samsung) 5,000mAh battery capacity More than a day of use 15W wired charging. You get a fairly standard 15W wired charging rate with this phone, and wired charging is your only option – there's no wireless charging here, which is exactly as you would expect for a smartphone in this price range.

Here are five reasons the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G is shaping up to be great value at $450, and one way it is losing out compared to the competition.

The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G is your way into Galaxy phone ownership without having to splurge on a phone like the expensive (but admittedly brilliant) Galaxy S22 Ultra .. You’ll spend less buying the new Galaxy A53 5G than before, and for that lower price, you’ll also get longer software support this time around.. Samsung has committed to delivering four years of Android updates and five years of security updates to the Galaxy A53 5G, a year longer than it did for the Galaxy A52 5G.. The Galaxy A53 5G has a 5,000mAh capacity battery inside, compared to a 4,500mAh battery in the Galaxy A52 5G.. If you pre-order the Galaxy A53 5G through Samsung’s own store, you get a free pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds Live true wireless headphones.. If your phone use doesn’t call for convenient fast charging, then the lack of it won’t be a problem, but if you’re coming from a phone with seriously quick charging speeds now, it’s something we think you’ll miss.

The inconvenients Aside from the 90Hz refresh rate, the display isn’t very good Questionable build quality Two of its three rear cameras aren’t useful. But people who buy $250 phones probably aren’t drowning in spare chargers like enthusiasts who spend $900 on a new phone every year are.. The main camera produces decent images in good light.. At two megapixels, photos from the A13’s macro camera are relatively small: just 1,600 by 1,200 pixels.. Performance is excellent for the price, battery life is really strong, and compared to other phones in this price range, its cameras aren’t bad at all (well, the main one, anyway).. Buy the Samsung Galaxy A13 5G:

In a world of $1000+ phones, the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G is pitched as the antidote to your woes, a phone that does everything you need and more without breaking the bank. But is the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G any good?

In a world of $1000+ phones, the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G is pitched as the antidote to your woes, a phone that does everything you need and more without breaking the bank.. But the secret to Samsung’s dominance in the mobile space is NOT its expensive Galaxy S22 or its foldable phones; no, it is its cheaper, mid-range phones like the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G which are driving its revenue lines.. Thank god, then, for phones like the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G which take the “idea” of a flagship phone and package it up inside an infinitely cheaper package.. The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G does a sterling job of following on from the Galaxy A52 – a phone that was a great seller for Samsung, and one we also rated highly.. There’s a good reason why it is the biggest phone brand on the planet, and it is NOT because of its flagship phones – it is because of phones like the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G and the Samsung Galaxy M13 .

Streamers’ paradise

If the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is the eye-catching star of the company’s flagship line, then the Galaxy A53 5G is the tempting alternative in the company’s mid-range and budget Galaxy A range.. Ahead of our full review, we got some hands-on time with Samsung’s new affordable 5G phone to see what it’s like.. (Image credit: Future)At that price, it’s not the cheapest 5G phone we’ve seen - either from Samsung or other brands - but it is more affordable than the A53 5G, which costs £399 / AU$699.. It's also more expensive than the Galaxy A32 5G - you can see the price of that below.. (Image credit: Future)There are four rear cameras on the Samsung Galaxy A33 5G, but quantity is not the same as quality.. Onto battery - it’s nice and big, at 5,000mAh.. (Image credit: Future)Charging is 25W, which matches the Galaxy S22 - but even at this price range, there are Chinese phone makers offering much, much faster powering.. Perhaps our main concern with the Samsung Galaxy A33 5G after using it for a short testing time was that it felt a little bit slow to use.. Swiping between home screen pages, opening apps and using the camera software always felt just a tiny bit more choppy than on another phone.. Like quite a few mid-range and premium mobiles, the A33 offers a RAM extension mode, which temporarily turns storage space into RAM, which can give you a boost for gaming or intensive tasks..
